Happy New Year!

The Marine Discovery Centre is now open for School Excursions!

The Marine Discovery Centre has celebrated 23 years of running primary school excursion programs, teaching over 120,000 children about South Australia’s iconic coastal and marine environments since 1997.

Here’s what teachers, students and parents have said about these hands-on excursions:

"Thank you so much for the wonderful day you organised for us. We enjoyed it immensely and learnt many new interesting facts." — Year 1 Class, 2019

"Thank you for having us. The year 1's said it was best excursion they've ever been on" - Rosalie, Teacher, 2020

"Our daughter had the best day and it's reinforced her dream of becoming a marine scientist."— Diana, Parent, 2019

I just wanted to share how amazed we all were with our visit to your fantastic program yesterday. Not only with the glorious weather we had (thanks for turning on the sunshine) but for also your kind and thoughtful staff that run this fantastic education and fun program. All the children and educators had so much fun and shared all their stories of what they enjoyed on the journey back to our VC site and then again with their families when they left for home. – OSHC Director, 2021

Supporting the Adelaide Dolphin Action Group. A great educational resource for kids.

Join Brian Gillan for the launch of his book "Who can save the Dolphins" at the Marine Discovery Centre. A presentation will take place prior to book signing. This is a free event with book purchases available on the day

About the book

Ten year old Sam loves to watch the dolphins playing and frolicking in the river. But her world soon changes when she is jolted into the realisation that there are lethal dangers lurking in the water - and they are killing the dolphins. Sam and her friends could not have foreseen the impact of their quest to save the dolphins, nor the danger they were in.

"Brian Gillan's book is a realistic story of the plight of a dolphin - capturing the attention of the reader, young and old, empowering people to be more careful about the disposal rubbish". Dr Michelle Blewitt, Project Director4, AUSMAP

"...a vivid story about how one young dolphin fell victim to a plastic bag will go a long way toward ensuring young people do not repeat the careless littering mistakes of previous generations." Dr Mike Bossley, Marine Biologist, Conservationist
